Head of Technology

Responsibilities

• Own the technical health, architecture, and growth of a multi-tenant Node.js/TypeScript backend platform.
• Design and review system architecture decisions, including schema changes, service boundaries, and async workflows.
• Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and foster a proactive post-mortem culture.
• Drive engineering standards for code reviews, test coverage, and error handling patterns.
• Manage infrastructure costs across AWS, third-party APIs, and LLM usage.
• Translate technical complexity into clear language for non-technical stakeholders and co-founders.
• Balance the tension between rapid feature shipping and long-term system maintainability.

Requirements

• 7–8 years of backend software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or staff-level role.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js in a production environment.
• Deep understanding of multi-tenant SaaS architecture patterns.
• Hands-on experience with relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and writing efficient queries at scale.
• Experience designing and operating async/event-driven systems (message queues or workflow engines).
• Proficiency with cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with real-time systems such as WebSockets, Socket.IO, or pub/sub patterns.
• Exposure to LLM integration, RAG pipelines, or AI feature development.
• Experience with Temporal.io or similar workflow orchestration tools.
• Familiarity with WhatsApp Business API or omnichannel messaging integrations.
• Prior experience in a startup environment (10–100 employees) setting engineering standards.
