About the role
Responsibilities
- Set the long-term scientific vision and portfolio strategy for ex vivo and in vivo cell medicines.
- Lead matrixed teams to deliver milestones from target validation through IND and early clinical development.
- Oversee technical problem-solving in areas such as CAR T design, delivery optimization, and safety risk mitigation.
- Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing organization of senior scientific leaders and functional experts.
- Partner with cross-functional departments including Clinical, Regulatory, CMC, and Manufacturing to accelerate programs.
- Identify and evaluate external innovation opportunities and manage strategic collaborations.
- Manage budgets, headcount planning, and resource allocation across the cell medicines portfolio.
Requirements
- PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in cell biology, immunology, bioengineering, or a related discipline.
- 20+ years of biopharmaceutical R&D experience with a focus on cell-based therapies.
- Proven track record of advancing programs from discovery to IND and early clinical stages.
- Deep expertise in cell engineering (e.g., CAR design, viral vectors) and in vivo gene delivery (e.g., LNPs, viral modalities).
- Strong knowledge of regulatory pathways for cell and gene therapies, including FDA/EMA guidance and IND preparation.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary, multisite teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills for executive-level engagement.
