Head of Internal Tools Engineering

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end strategy and roadmap for all internal tools, platforms, and automation.
• Make strategic build-vs-buy decisions to create lasting organizational advantages.
• Architect and maintain the full engineering lifecycle for internal platforms, including API-first ecosystems.
• Lead the integration of AI and LLMs into internal workflows to streamline processes.
• Build and mentor a high-performing team of engineers and engineering managers.
• Partner with People, Finance, Engineering, Legal, and Operations leadership to align technical vision with business needs.
• Reduce cognitive load for internal users through standardized workflows and self-service capabilities.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in software engineering.
• 5+ years in engineering leadership (managing teams or managers).
• Strong hands-on technical background in production systems, architecture, and code review.
• Deep understanding of cloud-based systems (AWS, GCP, or Azure), APIs, microservices, and data pipelines.
• Proven track record of building and scaling internal tools or platforms for cross-functional teams.
• Experience managing a portfolio of custom-built and third-party tools.
• Strong product thinking focused on user outcomes and business impact.
• Excellent communication skills for articulating technical concepts to non-technical executives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience at a high-growth technology or AI-native company.
• Background in platform engineering or developer experience (IDPs).
• Familiarity with HRIS, ERP, and business systems (Workday, Salesforce, NetSuite).
• Experience integrating AI/LLMs into internal workflows or productivity tools.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and compliance frameworks.
