Head of Defense Engineering

Responsibilities

• Lead, grow, and mentor a team of software engineers in Seoul, owning hiring, onboarding, and career development.
• Build a high-performing team culture that combines mission focus with engineering rigor.
• Own the Korea team's roadmap in partnership with U.S. product and engineering leadership.
• Drive architecture and design reviews, making sound tradeoff decisions for defense-grade workloads.
• Champion engineering best practices including CI/CD, testing, code review, and documentation.
• Represent the engineering team in technical customer discussions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in an engineering management or team lead role.
• Proficiency in Python, C++, or similar programming languages.
• Experience with AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Fluent English for daily collaboration with U.S. teams and native-level Korean for leading the local team.
• Proven track record of delivering complex software products in fast-paced environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading teams that built simulation platforms, ML training infrastructure, or robotics developer tooling.
• Familiarity with reinforcement learning frameworks or simulation engines.
• Experience delivering software in closed-network or air-gapped deployment environments.
• Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing workflows.
• Domain knowledge in UAVs, unmanned systems, or aerospace control systems.
