Head of Credit Risk

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the commercial credit risk group in Quebec, ensuring business strategies align with regulations and internal policies.
• Manage the commercial credit portfolio to maintain acceptable risk levels and minimize bad debt losses.
• Approve credit requests within lending limits and provide recommendations for high-value loans.
• Lead a team of credit evaluators, providing coaching, support, and professional development to build future leaders.
• Partner with Commercial Banking, Professionals, and Private Banking teams to negotiate credit terms and structure profitable solutions.
• Monitor portfolio quality, including risk rating migrations, non-accrual loans, and delinquency reports, taking corrective actions when necessary.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory obligations, including anti-money laundering (AML) and operational risk controls.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in financial analysis or credit assessment.
• Post-secondary degree in business administration or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
• Deep knowledge of commercial banking, credit policies, and procedures.
• Strong financial analysis, accounting, and risk assessment skills.
• Proficiency in understanding security documentation, legal implications, and recourse.
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing credit teams.
• Bilingualism in English and French is required.
• Ability to make decisive judgments in uncertain environments and communicate reasoning clearly.
