About the role

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals following Canada’s Food Guide and dietician-approved menus
  • Ensure all food handling, preparation, and storage comply with Food Safe standards
  • Maintain strict sanitation and safety standards for all work areas, including freezers, refrigerators, and stoves
  • Manage inventory rotation and perform daily temperature audits for food storage units
  • Utilize various cooking methods to produce a range of menu items efficiently
  • Minimize food waste through creative and efficient utilization of ingredients
  • Complete administrative tasks including incident reports, monthly logs, and meal count statistics
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and mandatory job-related training

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Post-secondary education in Food Services or specialized food service courses
  • Food Safe Level 1 certification
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience, including 1 year of institutional cooking
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/carry items weighing up to 40 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Food Safe Level 2 certification
  • Strong interpersonal and team communication skills
  • Ability to adapt approach to various personalities and work effectively with volunteers
