About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead a highly trained team in managing hazardous materials projects and emergency responses
  • Respond at a moment’s notice to HAZMAT emergencies involving rail, road, and fixed facilities
  • Perform chemical transloading, neutralization, and decontamination operations
  • Organize and maintain all necessary resources, including personnel, equipment, and documentation
  • Ensure all emergency response equipment is operationally ready and properly maintained
  • Lead safety initiatives by conducting safety meetings, job hazard assessments, and following GFL procedures
  • Oversee work performed on-site to ensure safety, quality excellence, and adherence to scope
  • Assist with incident investigations and the development of corrective actions
  • Manage major industrial plant shutdowns, including planning, operations, and project closure documentation
  • Track and report daily project metrics such as hours, consumables, and waste volumes

Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving abstract
  • Physically fit and able to wear chemical protective clothing and respiratory protection
  • Willingness to travel and work on-call, including out-of-town assignments
  • Ability to work long hours and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Class 1 or 3 driver’s license
  • Experience in handling or transporting hazardous materials or emergency response
  • Knowledge of vacuum trucks and power wash equipment
  • Prior training in HAZMAT Technician, Tank Car/Truck Specialist, ICS, or Confined Space Entry
