About the role
Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, and validate hardware systems that capture logistics data from physical assets, vehicles, and field infrastructure
- Integrate sensors, embedded devices, communications modules, power systems, and enclosures into field-ready deployments
- Write firmware, scripts, and test tools to validate devices and support integration with Rune’s software platform
- Collaborate with software engineers to define device protocols, telemetry formats, and data ingestion paths
- Debug complex issues across hardware, firmware, networking, power, and mechanical integration
- Develop test plans for sensor reliability, power consumption, and environmental performance
- Support field deployments and iterate hardware designs based on direct operational feedback
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in hardware engineering, embedded systems, or a related technical role
- Strong hands-on experience integrating sensors, embedded devices, and power systems into complete systems
- Proficiency in writing firmware, scripts, or software for device integration and telemetry collection
- Experience debugging across firmware, drivers, cabling, signal quality, and networking
- Familiarity with electrical and mechanical design to ensure ruggedness and field usability
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building data-capture systems for defense, logistics, or industrial environments
- Programming experience in C, C++, Rust, Python, or Go
- Familiarity with vehicle or industrial communication protocols
- Experience with ruggedization standards (e.g., MIL-STD-810, IP ratings)
- Knowledge of RTOS or Linux-based edge devices
