Groundskeeping Technician II

Responsibilities

• Maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, flower areas, roads, and campus walking paths
• Perform seasonal snow removal and salting of campus roadways and sidewalks
• Prepare athletic fields for use, including setting up nets, moving bleachers, and marking fields
• Apply seed, fertilizers, and pesticides in accordance with the University’s integrated pest management program
• Mow, water, and perform necessary turf repairs
• Prune trees and shrubs and maintain flower areas through planting and weeding
• Clean, repair, and properly store various groundskeeping equipment and tools
• Provide direction to new employees, work-study students, and part-time staff

Requirements

• High School diploma
• Minimum of three years of experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance
• Valid New York State driver’s license
• Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds and perform manual labor
• Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures
• Ability to work extended hours, nights, and weekends as needed (especially during winter)

Preferred Qualifications

• Horticultural certificate
• New York State Pesticide certification
