Graduate Student Instructor

Responsibilities

• Provide pedagogical support for sectioned courses, including attending lectures and teaching discussion sections.
• Grade and provide feedback on student papers and exams.
• Hold regular office hours to meet with and support enrolled students.
• For Upper-Level Writing Requirement (ULWR) courses, provide extensive instruction and feedback on writing skills and discipline-specific writing.
• Participate in required training, such as the CRLT GSI Teaching Orientation and POLSCI 993 for first-time instructors.

Requirements

• Must be a graduate student currently enrolled at the University of Michigan.
• Must be in good academic standing.
• Demonstrated English language proficiency.
• For students whose undergraduate instruction was not in English, successful evaluation by the English Language Institute (ELI) is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of graduate-level coursework in political science.
• Previous experience serving as a Graduate Student Instructor (GSI).
• Proven track record of favorable student evaluations.
• Prior teaching experience within the field of political science.
