About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide pedagogical support for sectioned courses, including attending lectures and teaching discussion sections.
- Grade and provide feedback on student papers and exams.
- Hold regular office hours to meet with and support enrolled students.
- For Upper-Level Writing Requirement (ULWR) courses, provide extensive instruction and feedback on writing skills and discipline-specific writing.
- Participate in required training, such as the CRLT GSI Teaching Orientation and POLSCI 993 for first-time instructors.
Requirements
- Must be a graduate student currently enrolled at the University of Michigan.
- Must be in good academic standing.
- Demonstrated English language proficiency.
- For students whose undergraduate instruction was not in English, successful evaluation by the English Language Institute (ELI) is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of graduate-level coursework in political science.
- Previous experience serving as a Graduate Student Instructor (GSI).
- Proven track record of favorable student evaluations.
- Prior teaching experience within the field of political science.
