About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead two two-hour discussion sections of 25 students each for WGS 240
- Provide academic support through grading and holding weekly office hours
- Attend all scheduled lectures and participate in weekly instructional team meetings
- Develop independent lesson plans for discussion sections as needed
- Respond promptly to course communications and attend mandatory GSI orientation
- For the Graduate Student Mentor (GSM) role: provide academic mentoring, facilitate student support activities, and assist with course logistics and Canvas maintenance
Requirements
- Enrolled in good standing as a graduate student at the University of Michigan
- Minimum registration of 6 credit hours (5 credit hours with faculty advisor approval)
- Available to attend all lectures and teach scheduled in-person section times
- English language proficiency (must pass GSI-OET or have ELI waiver if undergraduate instruction was not in English)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior teaching experience and pedagogical training
- Interest in Women's and Gender Studies topics
- Experience using Canvas for course management
- Previous experience as a GSI or teaching courses within the WGS department
- Previous leadership experience (specifically for the GSM position)
