Government and Community Affairs Manager

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute state and local government affairs and community engagement strategies across California
• Build and maintain bipartisan relationships with state legislators, executive officials, and community leaders
• Monitor and analyze California legislative, regulatory, and political developments affecting the AI ecosystem
• Represent OpenAI in public forums, coalitions, conferences, and community events
• Support advocacy on issues including AI safety, innovation, education, and workforce development
• Translate complex technical and policy issues into accessible materials for diverse stakeholders
• Prepare briefing materials, policy analyses, and stakeholder plans for internal and external use
• Coordinate with consultants, trade associations, and external partners

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in public policy, government affairs, legislative work, or community engagement
• Deep understanding of California’s state and local political and regulatory environment
• Proven track record of building trusted relationships with policymakers and community leaders
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for translating technical concepts
• Ability to manage complex projects independently in a fast-moving environment
• Willingness to travel regularly within California and occasionally to other states
