About the role

Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate the delivery of the Adaptation Fund’s policy, risk, and legal work for the Secretariat and Board.
  • Analyze, review, design, and implement operational policies and guidelines, including Environmental and Social and Gender policies.
  • Contribute to the amendment, interpretation, and application of legal agreements used by grant implementing entities.
  • Review and update the Fund’s risk framework and manage its implementation.
  • Participate in the negotiation of project legal agreements with implementing entities.
  • Provide analysis regarding the Fund’s interface with the UNFCCC and related decision texts.
  • Serve as a primary point of response for the Fund’s Ad Hoc Complaint Mechanism.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in law, public policy, or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience coordinating legal and policy work within an international development organization or similar fund.
  • Proven experience in end-to-end project management of policy work, including drafting, updating, and implementation.
  • Experience negotiating policies and legal agreements.
  • Experience managing institution-wide risk frameworks and their linkages to legal and program functions.
  • Knowledge of board and committee governance processes and decision-making.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Superior analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in another official World Bank language (e.g., French or Spanish).
  • Basic knowledge of the Adaptation Fund's position within the international climate finance context.
  • Experience working with diverse external stakeholders, including government officials and development partners.
