Glaucoma Doctor

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, assess, and manage patients with existing or suspected glaucoma and other ocular conditions
• Carry out pre-operative and post-operative consultations
• Analyse and interpret diagnostic results including IOP, visual fields, OCT, fundus assessment, CCT, and gonioscopy
• Develop glaucoma management plans in line with NICE guidelines
• Deliver treatments including medication management, SLT, and PI where appropriate
• Explain treatment options, risks, and benefits to patients and families
• Maintain accurate clinical records using electronic patient systems
• Work collaboratively with consultants, optometrists, nurses, and wider clinical colleagues
• Support audit, reporting, and service improvement activity

Requirements

• Medical degree from a recognised university
• Valid GMC registration with a licence to practise in the UK
• Ophthalmology experience, specifically in glaucoma management
• UK NHS glaucoma clinic experience
• Experience working independently in glaucoma clinics
• Proficiency in gonioscopy and SLT laser
• Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills
• Experience using electronic patient administration or medical record systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience delivering Laser Peripheral Iridotomy
• Experience supporting glaucoma pathway development, audit, or CPD activity
