German Tutor

Responsibilities

• Lead small classes of elementary-level students in German twice per week following an established curriculum
• Engage students in spoken language practice and prepare them for final exams conducted by external examiners
• Evaluate student performance through daily assignments, quizzes, and formative assessments
• Maintain accurate attendance and grade records using the Canvas learning management system
• Adhere to the syllabus and instructions provided by the Program Director
• Act as a liaison between students, the program director, and the program assistant
• Assist in recruiting students and promoting the Critical Languages Program

Requirements

• Native or near-native fluency in German, including proficiency in the formal standard register
• Proficiency in English
• College diploma, degree, or equivalent post-secondary qualification
• Minimum of two years of professional experience in the public or private sector
• Minimum of two years of experience using Microsoft Word and Outlook
• Ability to work in-person on the Samford University main campus
• Must be a U.S. resident and legally authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• Certification related to second-language teaching
• Previous experience teaching or tutoring a second language
• Proficiency with learning management systems such as Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard
• Experience using voice recording software or creating PowerPoint presentations for teaching
