About the role

Responsibilities

  • Deliver geotechnical and rock mechanics services for open pit and underground mining projects.
  • Undertake rock mass characterisation by interpreting borehole, laboratory, and field data.
  • Apply rock mass classification systems such as Q, RMR, and GSI.
  • Develop 3D geological and structural engineering ground models using software like Leapfrog Geo.
  • Perform stability assessments for slopes and underground excavations using empirical and numerical approaches.
  • Conduct numerical modelling using Itasca (FLAC2D/3D, UDEC, 3DEC) and Rocscience software suites.
  • Participate in fieldwork, including geotechnical core logging, site inspections, and rock face mapping.
  • Collaborate with global multidisciplinary teams on mining, infrastructure, and energy sector projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant post-degree professional experience in geotechnical or rock mechanics engineering.
  • Proficiency with numerical modelling software, specifically Itasca (FLAC2D/3D, UDEC, 3DEC) and Rocscience.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Professional membership (or working towards) with a relevant institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification in rock mechanics or geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience with Python programming.
  • Skills in CAD or parametric modelling (e.g., Rhino / Grasshopper).
