About the role
Responsibilities
- Conduct geotechnical investigations including drilling programs, rock and soil sampling, and field mapping
- Analyze rock mass behavior, slope stability, ground support requirements, and soil mechanics
- Develop geotechnical models for open-pit and underground mining operations
- Perform advanced numerical modelling using FLAC3D to support complex assessments
- Design stope dimensions, underground ground support systems, pit slopes, and tailings storage facilities
- Monitor ground conditions using instrumentation such as prisms, piezometers, and radar systems
- Identify geotechnical hazards and develop mitigation plans and emergency response recommendations
- Provide day-to-day geotechnical guidance to mine operations teams
- Prepare technical documentation, risk assessments, and engineering reports
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or related field
- 5-8+ years of mining geotechnical experience
- Knowledge of rock mechanics and soil mechanics
- Experience with slope stability analysis and ground support design
- Proficiency with geotechnical software such as FLAC3D, Rocscience Suite, GeoStudio, Surpac, Vulcan, AutoCAD, or GIS platforms
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Rock Mechanics
- Advanced expertise in FLAC3D numerical modelling
