About the role
Responsibilities
- Teach a 2-credit graduate course titled "Advanced Psychosocial Interviewing and Counseling Methods for Genetic Counselors" for the Fall 2026 semester.
- Facilitate weekly 2-hour in-person sessions on campus from September 7, 2026, to December 20, 2026.
- Guide students in developing proficiency in interviewing techniques, active listening, and client-centered decision-making.
- Instruct on culturally responsive and trauma-informed care, including grief, bereavement, and crisis intervention.
- Help students apply psychosocial skills to specific genetic counseling scenarios and professional interactions.
- Address practitioner self-care strategies and the psychosocial dimensions of genetic counseling practice.
Requirements
- Terminal degree in a counseling field (e.g., Clinical Counseling, Psychology, Social Work).
- Professional counseling experience in Genetic Counseling or a closely related field.
- Authorized to work in the United States (sponsorship is not available).
- Ability to teach in person on the Sarah Lawrence College campus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in genetic counseling and teaching graduate-level students.
- Comfort using hybrid learning technologies, such as Zoom and online learning management systems.
