General Practitioner

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage delivery of primary healthcare services to immigration detainees
• Provide preventative health checks, immunisations, and health promotion
• Manage acute medical presentations, chronic diseases, and complex comorbidities
• Support patients with acute and chronic mental health issues alongside the multidisciplinary team
• Act as the primary medical escalation point and provide clinical oversight for health staff
• Maintain high-quality, comprehensive medical records
• Adapt to evolving operational requirements and changing health needs of the detention cohort

Requirements

• Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and full, unrestricted registration with the Medical Board of Australia
• Fellowship with RACGP, ACRRM, or equivalent substantial clinical practice experience
• Demonstrated capability in managing mental health and alcohol or other drug concerns
• Understanding of acute, chronic, and complex trauma impacts on physical and psychological health
• Authorisation as an opioid substitution treatment prescriber, or willingness to obtain it
• Knowledge and experience in managing public health issues, particularly communicable diseases
• Strong understanding of the needs of vulnerable populations
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills
• Commitment to continuous improvement, reflective practice, and high clinical standards
• Clear understanding of ethical considerations and confidentiality in healthcare delivery
