General Practitioner

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the delivery of high-quality primary healthcare services to immigration detainees within a detention centre environment.
• Provide clinical oversight and act as the primary medical escalation point for onsite health staff.
• Manage acute medical presentations, complex comorbidities, and chronic diseases.
• Support patients with acute and chronic mental health issues in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
• Deliver preventative health services, including immunisations, health promotion, and health assessments.
• Maintain high-quality, comprehensive medical records and ensure trauma-informed care.

Requirements

• Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
• Full registration with the Medical Board of Australia without restrictions.
• Fellowship with RACGP, ACRRM, or equivalent substantial clinical practice experience.
• Opioid substitution treatment prescriber authorisation (or willingness to obtain it).
• Demonstrated experience in managing mental health, substance use, and complex trauma.
• Strong understanding of public health issues and communicable diseases.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with vulnerable populations or in high-stress healthcare environments.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices.
