General Mechanic

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs to plumbing, steam lines, electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment
• Maintain and repair furniture, doors, windows, and various types of locks
• Service and repair overhead doors, including torsion springs, cables, and tracks
• Install laboratory equipment such as racks, exhaust hoods, blowers, and shelving
• Execute minor masonry, plastering, and glass block replacements
• Perform minor painting jobs and furniture refinishing
• Conduct simple repairs to furnaces, air ducts, and operating maintenance machinery
• Operate electronic equipment to enter work orders, purchase orders, and supplies
• Drive to and from various work sites as required

Requirements

• Skilled trades experience in two or more building or mechanical trades
• Ability to perform repairs in plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry, and painting
• Proficiency with various hand and machine tools
• Ability to work from drawings or blueprints and follow oral or written instructions
• Valid New York State Driver's License
• Physical condition commensurate with the demands of manual labor and maintenance work
