General Maintenance

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform various maintenance tasks in University buildings, focusing on repairs and replacements
• Repack and replace faucets, and clear plugged sinks, toilets, and drains
• Disassemble, clean, and replace traps, and change belts in electrical equipment
• Open stuck windows and board up broken windows
• Remove small animals from inside and around buildings using proper safety equipment
• Re-lamp fluorescent and incandescent lights
• Read diagrams and blueprints to assemble furniture and equipment
• Assist specialized tradesmen as needed and exercise judgment to determine when to call for expert assistance

Requirements

• 1-2 years of practical trades training or equivalent work experience
• At least one year of additional practical experience
• Must provide your own hand tools
• Valid driver's license with the ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds
• Ability to work in conditions of extreme heat or cold and at elevated heights (ladders, scaffolds, etc.)
