About the role
Responsibilities
- Plan and perform various maintenance tasks in University buildings, focusing on repairs and replacements
- Repack and replace faucets, and clear plugged sinks, toilets, and drains
- Disassemble, clean, and replace traps, and change belts in electrical equipment
- Open stuck windows and board up broken windows
- Remove small animals from inside and around buildings using proper safety equipment
- Re-lamp fluorescent and incandescent lights
- Read diagrams and blueprints to assemble furniture and equipment
- Assist specialized tradesmen as needed and exercise judgment to determine when to call for expert assistance
Requirements
- 1-2 years of practical trades training or equivalent work experience
- At least one year of additional practical experience
- Must provide your own hand tools
- Valid driver's license with the ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds
- Ability to work in conditions of extreme heat or cold and at elevated heights (ladders, scaffolds, etc.)
