About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide formal, evidence-based valuations for sale, insurance, taxation, family division, loan collateral, and estate planning
  • Locate, catalogue, and photograph items during on-site visits
  • Submit accurate cataloguing and reliable estimates in a timely manner
  • Travel extensively across the UK and Europe to assist with valuations
  • Act as a brand ambassador, providing excellent service to clients and professional advisors
  • Maintain high standards of discretion, integrity, and client confidentiality
  • Conduct provenance research, compose footnotes, and proof-read documents
  • Adhere to legal and compliance requirements including Ivory, CITES, and AML
  • Support sales and business-getting activities as required

Requirements

  • Graduate-level education
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience valuing chattels at an international auction house or related art business
  • Proven experience valuing British and Continental Furniture, Rugs and Carpets, Sculpture, and Clocks
  • Full, clean driving licence
  • Proficiency in IT, photography, and basic Excel
  • Fluency in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or related professional body
  • Knowledge of Modern Design, Asian, Indian, Islamic Decorative Arts, Silver, or Collectibles
  • Understanding of the UK taxation system (IHT, CGT, Acceptance in Lieu scheme)
  • Proficiency in another European language
  • Awareness of regional and international art markets
