General Chemistry Laboratory Teaching Assistant

Responsibilities

• Assist instructors in helping students conduct experiments safely
• Answer student questions regarding experimental procedures, calculations, and underlying chemistry concepts
• Actively support students in the laboratory during assigned lab times
• Assist with lab setup and cleanup, including preparing chemical reagents and equipment
• Manage waste disposal by capping and storing waste bottles and returning equipment to appropriate locations
• Grade beginning-of-lab assignments as directed by the instructor
• Support the lab coordinator in preparing solutions and general lab upkeep

Requirements

• Successful completion of CHM 277 with a grade of B or higher
• For CHM 278 TA roles, successful completion of CHM 278 with a grade of B or higher
• Knowledge of safe laboratory practices and underlying chemistry concepts
• Strong technical and interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and faculty

Preferred Qualifications

• Chemistry majors
• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant
• Students with Federal Work Study in their Financial Aid Package
• Students with Green Dot Certification
