About the Company

DiffUSE is a project at the Astera Institute building open infrastructure for studying protein dynamics directly from experimental data. We work at the interface of structural biology, modern machine learning, computational biophysics, and open scientific tooling.

Responsibilities

As this is a general application, roles may include:

• Computational and data science: diffraction data processing, structural data pipelines, and heterogeneity analysis.
• Machine learning research: representation learning for protein dynamics and geometric deep learning.
• Dataset generation: designing campaigns to generate large structural datasets and standardizing existing data.
• Software engineering: building scientific data infrastructure, pipelines, and open-source tooling.
• Program and operations: scientific coordination, communications, and community building.

Requirements

• Familiarity with protein biophysics and experimental structural data methods
• High agency and ability to drive projects independently
• Strong commitment to open science and public-good infrastructure
• Ability to work at the boundary between multiple disciplines
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Track record of independent work within collaborative teams
