Genentech Fellow/Executive Director, Frontier Research, AI for Drug Discovery

Responsibilities

• Lead a frontier machine learning research lab focused on foundational research and the development of new algorithmic frameworks.
• Shape the research vision by enabling independent, high-impact research at the leading edge of machine learning.
• Mentor senior scientists as peers, fostering rigorous scientific discourse while preserving their research autonomy.
• Recruit and develop emerging machine learning researchers, supporting their growth into internationally recognized scientific leaders.
• Drive an open-science culture through regular publication, academic engagement, and leadership in university partnerships.
• Enable high-value strategic collaborations across Genentech and Roche while protecting the lab's focus on long-horizon research.

Requirements

• PhD in machine learning or a related field (e.g., computer science, statistics, or applied mathematics).
• A sustained and proven record of foundational contributions to the machine learning community.
• Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring senior researchers within an academic or industrial research environment.
