About the role
Responsibilities
- Prepare and develop age-appropriate gardening curriculum, lesson plans, and special projects for K-12 students
- Facilitate project-based learning units focused on topics such as vegetable gardening, urban gardening, composting, or soil health
- Work with program participants to develop their educational, leadership, and critical thinking potential
- Coordinate subject-related trips, guest speakers, and special gardening events
- Communicate student progress and insights to team members on a regular basis
- Act as a positive role model for all students within the program
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (degree preferred)
- 1+ years of teaching or youth development experience
- Proven ability to develop lesson plans and implement project-based learning
- Expertise in gardening specialties such as pollinator gardens, sustainability, or plant care
- Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- University-level education or practical experience in horticulture or environmental science
- Experience working specifically with urban or community garden settings
- Background in teaching diverse student populations in an after-school setting
