About the role

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and develop age-appropriate gardening curriculum, lesson plans, and special projects for K-12 students
  • Facilitate project-based learning units focused on topics such as vegetable gardening, urban gardening, composting, or soil health
  • Work with program participants to develop their educational, leadership, and critical thinking potential
  • Coordinate subject-related trips, guest speakers, and special gardening events
  • Communicate student progress and insights to team members on a regular basis
  • Act as a positive role model for all students within the program

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (degree preferred)
  • 1+ years of teaching or youth development experience
  • Proven ability to develop lesson plans and implement project-based learning
  • Expertise in gardening specialties such as pollinator gardens, sustainability, or plant care
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • University-level education or practical experience in horticulture or environmental science
  • Experience working specifically with urban or community garden settings
  • Background in teaching diverse student populations in an after-school setting
