Garage Mechanic

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and overhaul automotive vehicles and groundskeeping equipment, including gasoline, diesel, and electric systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair components of engines, transmissions, fuel injection, braking, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Service groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, blowers, and heavy machinery like loaders and backhoes.
• Perform preventive maintenance and develop schedules using the department’s maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Manage fuel and lubricant inventory and maintain consumption records.
• Estimate repair costs and order necessary parts and supplies.
• Ensure the garage remains clean and compliant with OSHA, EPA, and other safety regulations.
• Assist with snow and ice removal and respond to campus emergencies.

Requirements

• Demonstrated journey-level engine mechanic knowledge.
• Valid driver’s license with the ability to safely operate various vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unaided.
• Proficiency in English (reading and writing) for maintaining technical and computer records.
• Ability to use computerized engine analyzers and other diagnostic test equipment.
• Ability to work independently and handle pressure during emergencies.
