Functional Safety Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead compliance activities for ESS functional safety focusing on UL 1998, UL 991, and UL 5500
• Apply safety principles to ESS hardware and software through FMEA, hazard analyses, and safety cases
• Manage certification programs with NRTLs to ensure timely product approvals
• Translate complex safety standards into actionable requirements for cross-functional teams
• Develop and execute hazard mitigation and validation strategies
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and product design teams to streamline safety processes

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineering
• Hands-on experience in embedded software development within safety-critical environments
• Proficiency in C for real-time embedded systems
• Strong background in UL 1998, UL 991, and UL 5500 standards
• Experience with Energy Storage Systems, power electronics, or safety-critical systems
• Experience managing compliance or certification processes with third-party bodies

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with microcontroller-based systems and low-level firmware
• Familiarity with IEC 61508, IEC/UL 60730, ISO 26262, or ISO 13849
• Demonstrated ability in V&V planning and safety case development
