Fullstack Engineer, Safety Engineering

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end development of internal tools to improve the safety and reliability of OpenAI’s models, focusing on areas like mental health and vulnerable-user protections
• Partner with Safety Systems researchers, engineers, and policy creators to translate complex workflows into durable product solutions
• Build full-stack experiences to support core model policy workflows, including data labeling, inspection, and failure case analysis
• Optimize internal applications for usability, speed, and scale to increase team velocity
• Transform successful AI-assisted safety workflows into external-facing products to empower the broader developer community

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience at tech and product-driven companies
• Proficiency with JavaScript, React, and other modern web technologies
• Proficiency with at least one backend language, such as Python
• Experience working with relational databases like Postgres or MySQL
• A strong interest in AI/ML (direct experience is not required)
