Full-Stack Senior Software Engineer

Civic Marketplace is a mission-driven startup reimagining how local governments procure and deliver essential services. We are building an intuitive and efficient procurement platform to transform local government operations and improve outcomes for residents.

Responsibilities

• Act as the first engineering hire and foundational technical leader
• Drive the technical roadmap and manage the codebase end-to-end
• Implement engineering processes including pull requests, code reviews, testing, and monitoring
• Manage resource allocation, risks, and blockers to ensure execution
• Lead hiring, motivation, and growth for the engineering team
• Oversee the operation of data, systems, and applications in production
• Establish team goals and OKRs to drive continuous improvement
• Cultivate a culture of ownership, accountability, and high standards

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional engineering experience
• Full-stack expertise with proficiency in React
• Experience with marketplaces and payment infrastructure
• Familiarity with hybrid approaches involving custom code and no-code/low-code tools
• Strong systems thinking and ability to design scalable architectures
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and lead technical projects
• High emotional intelligence and proactive communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a startup environment
• Ability to rapidly learn new languages, frameworks, and systems
• Experience managing contractors or freelancers
