Founding Engineering Manager

Responsibilities

• Mentor and develop a high retention team of engineers
• Partner with founders on hiring, onboarding, and career development
• Own planning and delivery across multiple initiatives
• Hold the bar on quality and system design
• Connect engineering to product and customer needs
• Build lightweight and practical operating rhythms
• Contribute to architectural decisions and long-term platform investments
• Stay close to customer-facing engineers to understand real-world problems

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience
• 2+ years managing engineering teams in a startup or high-growth environment
• Track record of shipping complex technical work and developing engineers
• Strong technical judgment in architecture and system design
• Experience building engineering culture focused on ownership and craft
• Excellent written communication skills for async-first environments
• Customer-centric instinct and interest in production performance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AI-native products, developer tools, or infrastructure platforms
• Background in developer tooling, APIs, or cloud infrastructure
• Experience in customer-facing engineering organizations
• Early engineering leadership at a startup
