Founding Design Engineer

About the Company

Bretton runs AI-native operations for the financial back office. OCC, Fed and FDIC regulated banks use Bretton AI to run compliance, risk, fraud, and operations on one platform, on their own data and policies, with every output traced, cited, and audit-ready.

Responsibilities

• Own the design system in code, building and evolving components, primitives, and patterns
• Ship production-grade front-end code for design-heavy work, ensuring performance and accessibility
• Design and build interface patterns that make agent behavior legible and trustworthy for compliance reviewers
• Partner with product designers to validate ideas through working code
• Collaborate with the engineering team on architecture and long-term front-end health

Requirements

• Significant production front-end experience with owned interfaces
• Fluency in React, TypeScript, semantic HTML, and modern CSS
• Active use of AI-coding tools like Claude Code or Cursor
• Portfolio demonstrating visual and interaction craft
• Systems mindset for building composable primitives
• Focus on performance, accessibility, and reliability

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience owning a design system or component library
• Proficiency in Figma
• Experience designing for agentic or automation-heavy products
• Background in fintech, compliance, or regtech
• Familiarity with PostHog or product analytics tools
