Founding Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and build the foundational backend for a consumer voice-first product
• Build and operate real-time voice infrastructure and streaming architectures
• Design fault-tolerant systems that degrade gracefully under partial failure
• Build AI-ready infrastructure including reliable API contracts and queue-based async pipelines
• Implement system observability, monitoring, logging, and alerting
• Establish engineering standards and make architectural tradeoffs

Requirements

• Senior or staff level experience as a backend or systems engineer on consumer-facing products
• Proven track record of building products from 0 to 1 and scaling them
• Experience with real-time or streaming systems such as voice, video, or messaging
• Ability to design reliable systems around non-deterministic AI services and LLMs
• Fluency with ML infrastructure to partner effectively with AI engineers
• Strong judgment regarding security, privacy, and reliability
