Founding Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and build core backend systems, including infrastructure and internal platform capabilities
• Create fault-tolerant, idempotent systems to handle sensitive workflows safely
• Own critical data and infrastructure decisions regarding medical, billing, and operational data
• Develop robust, consumer-grade APIs and scalable service architecture
• Maintain high engineering rigor through unit testing, performance optimization, and technical standards

Requirements

• Strong backend and infrastructure fundamentals with experience in sound architecture
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or similar)
• Proficiency with SQL and non-SQL databases
• Experience with consumer-scale APIs, SDKs, and service-oriented architecture
• High attention to detail regarding system correctness and resilience
• Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of major technical decisions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with security, permissions, and role-based access controls
• Experience building compliance-minded or trust-critical infrastructure
