Forward Deployed Engineer

Bland.ai builds AI voice agents that handle real phone calls for some of the largest companies in the world. We are a series B startup that has raised $65 million from Emergence Capital, Y Combinator, and the founders of PayPal and Twilio.

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy AI solutions by translating customer challenges into functional agents.
• Prototype and iterate quickly to get versions into production.
• Partner with customer engineering, product, and operations teams to ensure scalability.
• Lead end-to-end technical delivery from discovery to deployment.
• Drive adoption and expansion by training teams and uncovering new automation opportunities.
• Act as the face of Bland, traveling on-site to build deep relationships with stakeholders.

Requirements

• 0–10 years of experience in full-stack, AI, or solutions engineering roles.
• Proven experience building and integrating AI or automation features.
• Hands-on experience integrating LLMs or AI SDKs into web applications.
• Proficiency with REST/JSON, Python or JavaScript, and modern dev tools (Git, NPM/PNPM).
• Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Willingness to work in-person frequently at the SF HQ and customer sites.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience deploying LLM-powered tools or agents.
• Prior startup or founder experience.
• Curiosity about AI agent design and orchestration systems.
• Experience working directly with customers to identify pain points.
• A portfolio of personal or side projects showcasing technical depth.
