Food Service Assistant

Responsibilities

• Manage food preparation, service, and kitchen operations to ensure nutritious, compliant meals for children
• Place weekly food orders, manage food costs, and verify deliveries
• Maintain strict food hygiene, safety protocols, and documentation
• Accommodate special dietary needs, including allergies and religious requirements
• Provide classroom support, including supervision and assistance with daily living skills
• Assist school staff with operational duties such as laundry and inventory checks

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Age 18 or older
• Active and current food worker card
• Experience in an institutional or highly regulated kitchen setting
• Knowledge of cooking methods and food safety protocols
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Fluency in English (speaking, reading, and writing)
• Ability to pass background checks and complete Texas state training

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with USDA/CACFP guidelines
• Two or more years of experience in a school or daycare kitchen
• Knowledge of food allergens and dietary accommodations
• Experience with Montessori pedagogy
• Experience working with children with special needs
• Fluency in Spanish
