Flight Test Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design flight test campaigns, test cards, and pass/fail criteria
• Define instrumentation, sensors, data acquisition, and telemetry requirements
• Write test plans, hazard analyses, and flight safety documentation
• Oversee execution of test cards and monitor aircraft behavior in real time
• Recommend and implement parameter changes during test events
• Build and maintain data pipelines to turn raw flight data into usable engineering data
• Analyze flight data to characterize performance, stability, loads, and systems behavior
• Perform root cause analysis on anomalies and failures
• Compare flight results against models and predictions
• Travel to remote test sites for field execution

Requirements

• Bachelor's or graduate degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, or related engineering
• Experience in flight test or developmental test and evaluation
• Demonstrated experience planning and executing flight test programs
• Familiarity with fixed-wing flight test fundamentals and envelope expansion
• Strong data analysis skills with ability to process large datasets
• Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or similar for data analysis and scripting
• Strong Linux command line skills
• Working knowledge of instrumentation, telemetry, and data acquisition
• Ability to travel to remote test sites and work in varied environmental conditions
• Strong communication skills and ability to make decisive judgments under pressure

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a test director or test conductor
• FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
• Experience operating unmanned aircraft (UAS)
• Background building RC or UAS aircraft
• Experience in an early-stage company flight test program
