Flight Termination System Engineer

Responsibilities

• Support the development, implementation, and subsystem-level testing of Flight Termination Systems (FTS) and Autonomous Flight Safety Systems (AFSS)
• Collaborate with range safety personnel to review and approve FTS and AFSS documentation and technical requirements
• Support the design, procurement, and build of AFSS Hardware in the Loop
• Contribute to flight test planning for integrated Stratolaunch missions involving carrier aircraft, pylons, and hypersonic vehicles
• Support design reviews throughout the vehicle system development lifecycle
• Evaluate technical risks and develop comprehensive mitigation plans
• Communicate technical challenges and progress regularly to the Avionics Chief Engineer and FTS/AFSS Project Manager

Requirements

• Experience with FTS and/or AFSS components (receivers, batteries, safe and arm devices, ordnance, initiators)
• Knowledge of electrical engineering, aircraft, or launch vehicle integration
• Experience working with and tailoring RCC-319 and RCC-324 requirements
• Proficiency with engineering programming tools such as Matlab or equivalent
• Experience with Maximum Predicted Environments, Acceptance Testing, and Qualification Testing
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoW) security clearance
• Experience with configuration management systems (Git, Bitbucket, JIRA, or equivalent)

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of RF system design, including link budgets, antenna design, and placement
• Experience with computing languages such as C or C++
• Experience with AGI STK or HFSS
• Knowledge of debris catalogs and breakup analysis
• Experience with air-launch programs or aircraft prototype development
• Experience working with government agencies
