About the role
Responsibilities
- Support the development, implementation, and subsystem-level testing of Flight Termination Systems (FTS) and Autonomous Flight Safety Systems (AFSS)
- Collaborate with range safety personnel to review and approve FTS and AFSS documentation and technical requirements
- Support the design, procurement, and build of AFSS Hardware in the Loop
- Contribute to flight test planning for integrated Stratolaunch missions involving carrier aircraft, pylons, and hypersonic vehicles
- Support design reviews throughout the vehicle system development lifecycle
- Evaluate technical risks and develop comprehensive mitigation plans
- Communicate technical challenges and progress regularly to the Avionics Chief Engineer and FTS/AFSS Project Manager
Requirements
- Experience with FTS and/or AFSS components (receivers, batteries, safe and arm devices, ordnance, initiators)
- Knowledge of electrical engineering, aircraft, or launch vehicle integration
- Experience working with and tailoring RCC-319 and RCC-324 requirements
- Proficiency with engineering programming tools such as Matlab or equivalent
- Experience with Maximum Predicted Environments, Acceptance Testing, and Qualification Testing
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoW) security clearance
- Experience with configuration management systems (Git, Bitbucket, JIRA, or equivalent)
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of RF system design, including link budgets, antenna design, and placement
- Experience with computing languages such as C or C++
- Experience with AGI STK or HFSS
- Knowledge of debris catalogs and breakup analysis
- Experience with air-launch programs or aircraft prototype development
- Experience working with government agencies
