Fleet Deckhand

Responsibilities

• Perform general housekeeping and upkeep of the vessel, including washing, chipping, painting, and cleaning
• Execute tow work, including building rigging and building tows for Lineboats
• Conduct fleet work, such as preparing barges for delivery to local customers
• Assist barge cleaners, mechanics, and welders as required
• Support the Captain with vessel reports in compliance with environmental, safety, and USCG regulations
• Report all injuries, illnesses, and near misses in a timely manner

Requirements

• Current Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card (or ability to apply within 5 days of hire)
• Ability to follow direction and execute tasks under the supervision of a Captain or Mate
• Sufficient reading and writing skills to complete required documentation
• Ability to work in all climates and handle a flexible schedule, including extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and human performance exam
• Reliable transportation to and from designated work locations
• Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods, perform frequent heavy lifting, and work in confined spaces or at various heights

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in inland waterway decking
