About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of craftsmen engaged in welding and fitting sheet metal structures
- Collaborate with the Production Manager to allocate manpower, equipment, and materials
- Supervise and monitor skilled labor and work crews to ensure quality and safety compliance
- Maintain welding and fitter equipment and ensure safe material handling
- Coordinate team activities with other foremen and project teams
- Act as the primary point of contact for welding and fitting aspects of projects
- Perform welding and fitting tasks as necessary to maintain project schedules
Requirements
- 6+ years in a manufacturing or fabrication shop environment
- 3 years of experience in a supervisory or lead role
- High School Diploma or GED
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings
- Knowledge of welding and fitting techniques and mechanical tools
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
- Intermediate math skills for calculating proportions and areas
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Business Suite
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma
- Experience in industrial markets or shipbuilding
