About the role
Responsibilities
- Design and layout fire sprinkler systems using AutoCAD or specialized CAD platforms
- Perform hydraulic calculations to ensure system efficiency and code compliance
- Interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings
- Apply NFPA 13 and other relevant codes to system design
- Prepare detailed shop drawings, material lists, and submittals
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and AHJs
- Conduct field surveys and inspections to verify design accuracy
- Maintain accurate documentation for permitting and project closeout
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2–5 years of experience in commercial fire sprinkler system design
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Strong understanding of NFPA 13, IBC, and IFC codes
- Ability to perform hydraulic calculations
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record
- Ability to travel to project sites for surveys or inspections
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering
- NICET Level II or higher certification in Water-Based Systems Layout
- Experience with Revit, SprinkCAD, or HydraCAD
