Fire Sprinkler Designer

Responsibilities

• Design and layout fire sprinkler systems using AutoCAD or specialized CAD platforms
• Perform hydraulic calculations to ensure system efficiency and code compliance
• Interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings
• Apply NFPA 13 and other relevant codes to system design
• Prepare detailed shop drawings, material lists, and submittals
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and AHJs
• Conduct field surveys and inspections to verify design accuracy
• Maintain accurate documentation for permitting and project closeout

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required
• 2–5 years of experience in commercial fire sprinkler system design
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• Strong understanding of NFPA 13, IBC, and IFC codes
• Ability to perform hydraulic calculations
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record
• Ability to travel to project sites for surveys or inspections

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering
• NICET Level II or higher certification in Water-Based Systems Layout
• Experience with Revit, SprinkCAD, or HydraCAD
