About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead regular visual inspections of residential stock to ensure compliance with fire, life safety, and building codes
  • Manage the Formal Fire Inspection Program, including vent hood cleaning and Ansul inspections
  • Identify adverse health and safety conditions and direct appropriate remedies or maintenance repairs
  • Manage community risk reduction programs and conduct onsite education for residents and staff
  • Perform plan reviews and coordinate with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) on fire safety topics
  • Track inspection results and manage data within university databases to ensure follow-up actions are completed
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures to enforce university and state/local codes

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of certifications and 8 years of experience in facilities or building inspection
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities, building inspection, or fire inspection roles
  • Strong knowledge of fire codes, standards, and life safety regulations
  • Proficiency in building maintenance, heating, cooling, and electrical systems
  • Experience performing plan reviews and preparing detailed technical reports
  • Ability to work in an active environment requiring standing, walking, bending, and climbing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Residential Building Inspector certification (International Code Council)
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector (National Recreation and Park Association)
  • Professional facilities-related certifications
  • Experience in community risk reduction and commercial building maintenance
