Fire Engineer – Design Assurance

Responsibilities

• Undertake independent review of fire engineering designs to ensure alignment with project requirements and applicable standards
• Provide assurance on both fissile and non-fissile project designs, identifying risks, gaps and opportunities for improvement
• Review fire strategies, calculations, and supporting documentation
• Apply a risk-proportionate approach to design review
• Support project teams in resolving technical fire safety issues and implementing mitigation strategies
• Provide expert technical input on fire engineering matters across project lifecycle stages
• Advise on compliance with relevant legislation, standards and best practice guidance
• Support multidisciplinary teams in integrating fire safety requirements into overall design solutions
• Liaise with internal teams, clients and external stakeholders to communicate fire safety risks
• Produce clear, concise technical reports outlining findings and recommendations

Requirements

• Level 5 Diploma or equivalent in fire engineering
• Degree in Fire Engineering
• Membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. Institute of Fire Engineers)
• In-depth knowledge of Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Approved Document B, and BS 9999
• Familiarity with Eurocodes, British Standards, and Codes of Practice
• Ability to review and interpret fire engineering designs and technical documentation
• Familiarity with Nuclear Site Licence Conditions and associated regulatory frameworks
• Experience in fire engineering for commercial, industrial and residential premises
