About the role
Responsibilities
- Serve as a first-line responder and leader during emergency incidents, including fires, hazardous material spills, and medical emergencies
- Coordinate and direct on-shift Emergency Response Team (ERT) activities to ensure safety and compliance
- Inspect, maintain, and operate fire apparatus, emergency response equipment, and fire protection systems
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct emergency response training exercises and drills for the ERT and refinery personnel
- Develop and maintain emergency pre-plans for high-risk operations, including units, tanks, and rescue scenarios
- Manage fire equipment and fire protection systems databases
- Interact with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies such as the Coast Guard and TCEQ
Requirements
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in emergency response (Industrial, Municipal, or as an FHR ERT member)
- Working knowledge of fire protection systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Valid Driver’s License
- Physical fitness to climb structures exceeding 150 feet, lift up to 50 pounds, and push/pull forces exceeding 150 pounds
- Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule and wear fully encapsulated chemical protective suits or SCBA
Preferred Qualifications
- EMT certification or higher
- Current emergency response certifications (Confined Space Rescue, HAZMAT, NIMS, or Oil Spill Response)
- Firefighter I/II, Rescue Technician, or equivalent state/national certifications
- Class A CDL with Hazmat endorsement
- Degree in Emergency Response, Fire Science, or a related field
