Financial Reporting Accountant

Responsibilities

• Support the timely and accurate preparation of monthly variance analyses and internal reporting objectives
• Prepare written communication and supporting workpapers for quarterly Form 10-Q and annual Form 10-K filings
• Analyze general ledger data and trends to support year-over-year and actual-to-budget variance explanations
• Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 controls, including the compilation of control evidence
• Assist with financial audits of Southern Power and its subsidiaries, providing technical reporting expertise to auditors

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field
• 5 or more years of experience in financial reporting, accounting, or a related field
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research capabilities
• Ability to meet tight reporting deadlines with a high level of accuracy

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA license or equivalent
• Knowledge of SEC Regulations S-K and S-X
• Experience using Oracle Financials and Workiva applications
• Working knowledge of the utility industry
• Advanced degree in accounting or a related field
