About the role

Responsibilities

  • Direct and govern key financial operations and analytical functions for the Department of Paediatrics
  • Manage budget development inputs and execute quarterly forecasting activities across UBC and PHSA
  • Analyze financial results, prepare variance explanations, and advise senior leadership on trends and risks
  • Oversee end-to-end accounting outcomes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and revenue recognition
  • Provide operational oversight for accounts receivable, bill-back, and cost recovery functions
  • Advise faculty and research staff on grants, contracts, and financial compliance
  • Develop and maintain financial models, dashboards, and analytical tools to support strategic decision-making

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline
  • Completion of at least 7 of the 14 CPA academic prerequisites
  • Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables and lookups), Word, and Outlook
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with reconciliations, journal entries, AP/AR, and month-end close activities
  • Experience using large enterprise systems (ERP) such as Workday Finance or PeopleSoft
  • Experience with fund accounting, financial control, and policy interpretation
  • Knowledge of GST/PST/HST rules applicable to university and health authority transactions
  • Ability to perform complex analyses and create financial dashboards
  • UBC FMS certification is considered an asset
