Financial Controller

Responsibilities

• Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including management accounts and consolidated reporting
• Handle cash flow forecasting, burn and runway modelling, treasury, and intercompany transactions
• Oversee payroll across jurisdictions, accounts payable, expenses, and spend approval processes
• Ensure statutory compliance including Companies House filings, VAT, corporation tax, and R&D tax credit claims
• Manage relationships with auditors, external accountants, tax advisors, and legal counsel
• Design and improve financial controls, policies, and processes to support scaling

Requirements

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or finance professional
• Solid experience with UK statutory accounts, compliance, and governance
• Experience preparing management accounts and board reporting
• Ability to work autonomously and build processes from scratch

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to multi-entity or international group structures (UK/US)
• Experience with payroll across multiple jurisdictions
• Experience with R&D tax credit claims
• Proficiency with modern accounting and HR/payroll software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Rippling)
• Familiarity with share option schemes (EMI) and cap table platforms (e.g., Carta)
• Experience supporting fundraising processes or due diligence
