About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead and support daily Accounts Payable operations, including the processing of invoices, vouchers, purchase orders, and departmental billing.
- Review and analyze financial statements, schedules, and expenditure reports to ensure accuracy and reconcile AP activity with City financial records.
- Research and resolve invoice discrepancies, vendor issues, and posting errors within the City’s financial accounting system.
- Supervise and provide guidance to senior accountants, accountants, and account clerks within the AP group.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and approval requirements.
- Compile and analyze AP metrics to support operational decision-making and citywide central services.
- Serve as a liaison to internal departments, external agencies, and vendors to resolve payment-related inquiries and complaints.
- Assist management in developing and updating financial policies, procedures, and process improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Four years of professional experience in finance, economics, budget analysis, or a closely related field.
- Strong knowledge of accounts payable, financial analysis, and governmental accounting practices.
- Proven ability to interpret financial data and resolve complex accounting issues.
- Ability to work independently with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Supervisory or leadership experience guiding and developing accounting staff.
- Proficiency utilizing SAP Financial Systems.
- Advanced knowledge of internal controls and process improvement within an AP environment.
