Financial Aid Counselor

Responsibilities

• Counsel students and parents regarding financial aid planning, debt management, and federal methodology
• Assist with the completion of the FAFSA, including verification and data adjustments
• Evaluate and process professional judgment requests and ensure appropriate documentation is maintained for audits
• Provide information on Pell Grants, Federal Direct Loans, and other special financial aid programs
• Conduct outreach activities, such as high school financial aid nights and university programs
• Perform mandated verifications of student information in accordance with Department of Education and university guidelines
• Analyze student financial needs to determine eligibility for various aid programs

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree
• At least six months of related experience (college internships or co-op experiences included)
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Proficiency in data entry and computer operations
• Ability to maintain an even temperament in stressful situations

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in business, student personnel, or a related field
• Direct experience in financial aid administration
• Knowledge of federal financial aid programs and supporting regulations
• Understanding of personal income tax and counseling experience
